4 million settlement graphic 1200 x 1200

Nicholas J. Leonardis, of Stathis & Leonardis in Edison, has recently obtained a $4 million settlement for a car crash resulting in serious injuries.

The plaintiff was driving in Union Township with her husband in the passenger seat when they stopped behind a trash truck. The trash truck then backed up and struck the front of their vehicle.

In turn, the plaintiff’s husband sustained a torn tendon in the left ankle, which required surgery, and spinal injuries in the lower back, which required pain injections. The plaintiff incurred multiple disc herniations in the neck, in which she had to undergo a multilevel procedure to replace the discs with prosthetic replacements. This is in addition to her vocal cord paralysis that temporarily hindered her ability to speak.

The trash truck operator and driver did not dispute liability but claimed the plaintiff’s neck injury was from a pre-existing injury from 11 years ago. In the end, the parties settled, and the plaintiff received $3 million while her husband got $1 million.
